Exploring the meaning of life…

Through a Veil Darkly

The young child held out his gaunt hand
and prayed that someone would feed him
He has taken all he can stand
and hopes that someone will see him.

Yet he is so tiny and frail
and surrounded by so many others…
it’s like he’s behind a dark veil
that hides him, his sisters and brothers.

And we, who are never without,
look but have nothing to say.
No matter how loud the boy shouts,
we don’t listen, but go on our way.

We should open our eyes and our ears.
Our hearts need to break deep inside
to feel their hunger and fears
before millions of children have died.

I know these pictures are hard to look at, but they show it as it is.  In 2010, there were 925 million hungry people in the world.  Malnourished children have on average 160 days of illness each year.  Yet, the world produces enough food to feed everyone.  What can we do?  We can volunteer our time, our resouces and whatever else God has blessed us with.  Do you have some land where someone in your community could grow food?  Could you volunteer at the many programs we have to fight hunger?  Don’t let it stop here – take action to do your part to fight hunger in our world.

Here are a few links about how to help feed the children of the world:
