Don’t worry…I got your back!

Have you ever looked at geese flying in a “V” formation and wondered why they do that?  I know I have.  The interesting part of the explanation is that it relates to physics, something humans have to study but evidently comes naturally in geese!

As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following it.  By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.  If a goose falls out of the formation, it immediately feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone and usually corrects itself by returning to the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the goose in front of it.  When the head goose gets tired, it falls back into the formation and lets another goose lead the way.  It is easier for us, as humans, to travel in the same direction of others that share our paths and goals.

When a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshot and falls out of the formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection.  They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies; and only then do they return to their course.

Do we, as humans, have as much sense, love and compassion as these geese?  Do we remain with a fallen comrad or do we merely move on our way?  I’ll never look at geese the same again.  If God would bestow this “sense” in geese, He surely must have given it to us, as well.

Let’s travel together and when we see a friend floundering, let’s whisper, “Hey, don’t worry.  I got your back!”
