Who are we to fear?

6th century Roman philosopher, Boethius, once wrote, “The goal of man is to
smile at a raging storm that once bore fear in his heart.”

We all have raging storms in our life that leave us frightened and weary.  But who are we to fear?  We can all picture what it would be like to be the son or daughter of a king.  It would be a life full of the best and finest that life has to offer.  Next time you feel yourself caving in to fear, remember who you are – a child of the King.  There can be no greater honor.

The following poem was written by spiritual activist and author Marianne Williamson, founder of Peace Alliance and Project Angel Food.

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
