When life gives you lemons…

Macie Rowan

Sometimes life is a bitter pill to swallow.  That was how Alex Miller felt a few years ago when his family and friends had come cross-country to watch his college graduation.  Years ago getting a college education almost assured one of a great job.  But what now?  With the economy as it is, thousands of men and women are desperately seeking work.  Alex knew he wouldn’t be able to get a job in his small town, so he packed everything he could in his car and left for Los Angeles.  With the due date to repay his student loans looming in the back of his mind, he became anxious, but hopeful.
The days grew into weeks and the weeks into months.  Day after day he struggled to find work.  Depression began to enter his life.  But instead of giving in to that feeling of dread, he began to write.  He poured his frustrations into a children’s book – Beyond the River – that told the story of a little fish who simply refused to give up on his dream.  To his amazement, he received a contract for the book and for his second book, then a few months later, a contract to work for Walt Disney.  Miller states, “Don’t give up…Often times our dreams lie in wait just a little further upstream…all we need is the courage to push beyond the river.”
The next time life gives you a bunch of lemons, remember Alex Miller’s story.  There is a way for you to turn things around – you may have to search high and low to find it, but it is there.  You will be happy that you didn’t give up.
Have a happy journey!
